A Vessel with a Rich Heritage
Launched in 1982, Cuauhtémoc is a steel-hulled three-masted barque named after the last Aztec emperor and warrior. With a length of 90.5 meters and a mast height of 48.2 meters, this impressive ship is a training vessel for fourth-year cadets of the Mexican Navy’s Heroic Naval Military School. On her 42nd training cruise, Cuauhtémoc travels over 25,000 nautical miles and visits 13 ports across Australia and New Zealand.
Notably, this voyage marks a historic milestone, featuring the largest number of female personnel in Cuauhtémoc’s history, with 53 women among the 261-member crew. Captain (Navy) Victor Hugo Molina Perez leads this diverse team, which includes an Australian Naval Officer, Sub Lieutenant Henry Mancilla, joining the ship in Fremantle.
Free Public Inspections
Visitors to Port Melbourne will have the chance to witness the spectacle of Cuauhtémoc as it arrives at the port. The crew will dress the yards and play lively Mexican music, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrates maritime tradition.
Cuauhtémoc will be open for free public inspections on the following days:

- October 4th – 7th: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- October 8rd: Departs 10:00 AM
