Nestled within the expansive JL Murphy Reserve in Port Melbourne, Dig In Community Garden offers a verdant sanctuary for gardening enthusiasts and community members alike. This flourishing garden features raised vegetable plots, thoughtfully designed to include wheelchair-accessible facilities, ensuring inclusivity for all participants.
Managed by the dedicated team at Southport Community Centre, Dig In serves as a hub for individuals passionate about cultivating fresh produce and fostering community connections. Beyond the tangible rewards of gardening, members often experience enhanced social cohesion and support, as highlighted in studies on urban community gardens.
For those looking to immerse themselves in this vibrant community, the Friends of the Garden membership is available at an annual fee of $20. This membership grants access to monthly working bees, held on the first Sunday of each month from 10 am to 12 pm. The upcoming session is scheduled for this Sunday, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with fellow gardeners and contribute to the garden’s upkeep.
